2018 Friday, July 20th

Our weekend together begins on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in New Glarus, WI, a quaint, Swiss-themed town. We recommend you plan to leave Chicago by 7:30 a.m. so you arrive by 11 a.m. or so to build in a little extra time for travel, unloading your bike and check out this quaint little town as there is plenty to see and do.We will leave our cars on the street at our lunch spot:

Fat Cat Coffee Works
606 Railroad St, New Glarus, WI 53574
(608) 527-3346

We will meet up for lunch at 11:30 a.m.(sharp) on the patio if the weather is good. After lunch, at about 12:30 p.m. we will head out for our
first ride of the weekend through the rolling hills between New Glarus and Mount Horeb, a challenging ride with lots of up and down. Both the views are stunning and Mount Horeb is another great town for a rest before returning.

Friday Afternoon: Ride from New Glarus to Mount Horeb and back: long option: 40 miles, 2186 ft of climbing, short option: 20 miles.
Also optional off-road option along
 the Sugar River Trail

New Glarus offers many attractions including the quaint shops around the city center. You can bike the shorter, 20 mile option or the optional off-road option along the Sugar River Trail and make time for visiting the shops. New Glarus is also home to the New Glarus Beer Brewery and tours are offered throughout the day.

After the ride, be assured your appetite will be tuned up for a fine group dining experience tonight by Madison Capital Square.
But first, we will head for our host hotel, The Country Inn & Suites in Middleton, get cleaned up, rest a bit and then meet in the lobby at
5:30 p.m. to gather up and car pool to our dinner spot

2018 Saturday, July 21st

Our day begins with a full breakfast at the hotel before heading out on today’s feature ride:

Saturday Ride: Middleton to Prairie Du Sac, 62 miles, 2850 ft of climbing, short option: 44 miles.
This ride is beautiful with rolling hills, stunning country views, lakes, and the Wisconsin River. This ride has some hills but not as challenging as previous years so it should make the longer distance more doable.

There is 20 miles option includes driving to our lunch spot in Prairie du Sac and following the cue sheets backwards through the lakes as far as Dane, or until you meet the rest of the group doing the longer distance from Middleton. This is a great option is you wanted to ride in the morning, have lunch with the group and then have the afternoon for your own sightseeing in and around Madison. Our lunch stop is in Prairie du Sac at:

The Blue Spoon
          550 Water St
Prairie Du Sac, WI 53578
(608) 643-0837

The Blue Spoon overlooks the Wisconsin River on a terraced balcony. Order your lunch at the counter and find a nice spot to sit on the terrace -- it's time to relax and enjoy lunch! After lunch, we resume our journey on the Wisconsin backroads to Middleton. Once back at the hotel there will be time to relax and take a shower.

Our group will reconvene in the hotel lobby at around 5:45 p.m. and car pool to head for our dinner spot:

Porta Bella Restaurant
425 N Frances Street, Madison, WI 53715
(608) 256-3186

We'll sit down to drinks at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m.
After dinner, we can take a walk to student union where you can get famous ice cream made by the University. Right next to the student union, there will be a music performance in the lake front terrace where local beer is served.

2018 Sunday, July 22nd

We have one more day to explore Madison before the weekend comes to an end. We've arranged for late check-out at the hotel (1 p.m.) so we can fully enjoy today's ride, have lunch, and still have time for a shower before the drive back home. Today's ride is more-relaxed and casual ride from the hotel to Downtown Madison, riding through the University, onto State Street, ending at Monona Terrace, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed convention center: :

Sunday Ride: Casual ride through the University, State Street to Monona Terrace: 20 miles, mostly flat

There will be an optional final group lunch at a local restaurant. The exact location will be selected closer to the event.

We say good by to our friends, hopefully having made a few new ones! We'll take home great memories of our weekend together in Madison.
